Youth and Sports Minister Agrees With Me

I am really happy with Dato Ismail Sabri, Youth and Sports Minister’s statement reported in the Star today.

Breakdancers and shufflers should not be deemed as juvenile delinquents just because they are interested in something outside our culture, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“It is our responsibility to understand today’s youth. These breakdancers and shufflers are not necessarily bad kids,” he said at the launch of Rakan Muda Remaja Siber here yesterday. (The Star, link here)

He is nodding to my concept of introducing and encouraging “alternative activities which are at the same time exciting, interesting and healthy” to the young people. Too bad Dato can’t make it to our Karnival Hari Belia Pulau Pinang, or else he’ll be proud of the Penang youth and our dynamism.

I just hope that this new wave of Rakan Muda he is pushing will outlast its initial heat, and not end up like our last round – all the monies in advertising and publicity and nothing comes out at the other end.
