PENANG’s Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee aims to raise RM100,000 through an International Women’s Day charity dinner on March 6 which it is jointly organising with the Pertubuhan Wanita Mutiara (PWM).

Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi said the money raised would be channelled to PWM which is the organisation for the wives of Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen in Penang.

“The organisation will then disburse the funds to women non-governmental organisations to fund women-related activities.

“The dinner will also promote International Women’s Day which falls on March 8,” she told a press conference at the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel where the event will be held at 7.30pm.

Ong said local singer You Di and Taiwanese singer He Fang would keep the guests entertained throughout the night.

Tickets for the dinner are priced at RM1,000 and RM2,000 per table.

Ong said there were 50 tables of which 15 had been taken up.

Those interested to buy the tickets can call Sim at 019-4587107 or 04-2614590.

Ong also said a two-day celebration would be held at the new wing of Gurney Plaza on March 7 and March 8 in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

“There will be a forum, talks and an exhibition which will touch on women- related issues. The celebration will be from 11am to 6pm on both days,” she said.
