2010 武术生活营 Wushu Exposure Camp 2010

MARTIAL art enthusiasts will have the chance to learn from former world wushu champion Ho Ro Bin, aka Ho Robin, during a four-day Wushu Exposure Camp 2010 to be held for the first time at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang from December 16.

Organised by Ding Feng Wushu Academy, the camp’s main mission is to further develop the sport by promoting it among students.

The Penang-born Robin is the only Malaysian exponent who has won gold medals in all major championships — the World and Asian championships, Asian Games and SEA Games. After being involved in competitions for 10 years, he retired in 2006.

Winning the gold medal in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan was one of his highest achievements because he won an event which required consistency in all the combined events of three disciplines — the nanquan (southern style boxing), nangun (cudgel) and nandao (broadsword).

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Lydia Ong said the camp was open to participants, aged between nine and 18, who were expected to come from other states including Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Johor.

“The camp not only focuses on wushu training but there will also be discussions on sport injuries and treatments, and team building games.

“Along with other national and state exponents, Robin, whose gold medal exploits are well known, will mould participants to be more independent and become better team players,” she said.

Ding Feng Wushu Academy will also be sponsoring orphans to join the camp so that they too can stand a chance to learn basic wushu skills.

The motto of the camp is ‘Play more, learn more’, which is also the motto of their main sponsor, Milo.
