Thursday January 6, 2011 – Reducing carbon footprints

Participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and Britain took part in the two-day ride from Dec 31 to Jan 1 and it covered a distance of 238km across Penang, Perak and Kedah.

Jointly organised by the Penang Government, Penang Sports Council, Malakoff Corporation Berhad and the Knights of the Round Table (KOTRT), it was held for the second consecutive year.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was present to hand out souvenirs to the cyclists, who then rode off to the Youth Park in the last leg of the journey.

State Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi said the event aimed at promoting cycling in Penang to reduce the carbon footprints.

In an earlier report, Malakoff’s head of corporate affairs Yusop Abdul Rashid had said the organisers raised RM50,000 for the Resource and Education for Autistic Children Association and Penang Bahnhof Youth Centre.
